A big thanks to Kerrin Tilley and Jim Savage for helping us demonstrate the great accessibility of the house. Kerrin and Jim had the following to say:

"When I was recently asked to view a newly built future proof house I jumped at the chance. You don't get many new houses that have been designed and built with accessibiliy in mind.

Being a wheelchair user myself I found the house very accessible. The path leading up to the front door was a good gradient, the exterior doorways were as flush as possible for smooth entry. The layout of the building was well thought-out and had a well designed kitchen, which was accessible and functional.

The double glazing and heat pump would give good insulation and heating. The lounge was a good size and captured the afternoon sun for warmth. Out from the lounge was a sheltered sunny wooden deck with planter boxes. The ranch slider had also been recessed into the floor for easy access.

The main bedroom was large and had a good sized ensuite which was fully wheelchair accessible and very functional.

All up I would say this is a well thought-out house and well constructed. The house would suit anyone but if accessibility were an issue then it would be ideal."

-Kerrin Tilley

"The new house built in Beattie Road, Kawerau has in my opinion been very well planned. There is a slight slope up from the road to the front entrance which is easily accessible because there is no 'lip' to wheel accross. Infact, all entrances were flat and even.

There were sliding doors to gain access to the back of the property. There was a garden set a wheelchair height and a ramp leading down the the front lawn. The property was well fenced and gated.

There was internal access from the garage to the house and wide passageways leading to the bedrooms and bathrooms. The main bedroom is quite large and receives plenty of sunlight.

The main bedroom had a huge ensuite. The shower was very large with two sliding shower heads and plenty of hand rails. The toilet had a non-slide seat and there is a nice roomy vanity area.

All light switches are at wheelchair height and are illuminated at night.

The kitchen has everything in easy reach including the stove and microwave and there is a breakfast bar at wheelchair height. The street can be seen from the sink area.

There is a bedroom and bathroom for the carer as well.

The house is lovely and light and bright. I would have no hesitation in recommending this house for any disabled person."
